Skip the coffee shop line. Honey dissolves beautifully into hot espresso, cinnamon adds warmth that plain sugar never could, and pouring the espresso over cold milk gives you those gorgeous café layers. It tastes like autumn decided to be refreshing.
Ingredients
- 2 shots espresso (about 60 ml), freshly brewed — or 1/2 cup strong coffee
- 1 tbsp honey, plus more to taste
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon, plus more to dust
- 3/4 cup (180 ml) cold milk (dairy or oat milk)
- 1 cup ice cubes
Method
- Brew the espresso directly into a heatproof cup or small jug.
- Stir the honey and cinnamon into the hot espresso until the honey fully dissolves.
- Fill a tall glass with the ice cubes.
- Pour in the cold milk.
- Slowly pour the sweetened espresso over the back of a spoon so it floats on the milk in layers.
- Dust with cinnamon, stir before drinking, and serve immediately.
Tips for success
- Oat milk foams and layers beautifully and adds its own gentle sweetness.
- Make a cinnamon-honey syrup (equal parts honey and hot water with cinnamon) for faster mornings.
- For a hot version, skip the ice and use steamed milk instead.
